About Kathryn Wilson
I am a fifth-generation West Virginian currently living in Raleigh. I was raised in a holler in Fayette County, and all of my fiction takes place in Appalachia. I’ve been published in the Anthology of Appalachian Writers, Sans Merci, Fluent, Welter, YNST, and The Offing.
I write historical flash fiction and linked short stories that take place throughout Appalachia. I like to play with the space between the reader’s interpretation and imagination, and use sparse yet evocative language to reach them where they’re at in that moment. I’ve written about the Hawks Nest Tunnel disaster, the Coal Wars, and am currently working on a cycle of revenge stories set in three different centuries of West Virginia history.
