Courtney Chapman
Description
Hi, I’m Courtney Chapman, a multidisciplinary artist working mostly in ceramics and nontraditional fibers – often upcycled plastics and found materials. My work us usually abstract and sculptural, shaped by intuitive and meditative processes that help me explore the spaces we live in, the realities of modern motherhood, and the quiet, complicated moments within everyday relationships.
I earned my BFA in Ceramics from Marshall University and have since worked as an artist, gallery director, and presently academic lab manager. I live in Milton with my husband and our two daughters, who inspire many of the themes in my work.
My work draws from everyday materials and moments that shape my life as a working mother. I create intuitive and often abstracted sculptures using ceramics and found plastics – mylar balloons, bits of toys, and leftover decorations that carry traces of celebration. Through these materials and inspirations, I consider the deep emotions and intimate negotiations of modern motherhood, turning fragments into reflections of what we keep, discard, and cherish.
