Description

Hello, my name is Griffin and I am an artist – curator living in the Wheeling area.

My artwork is primarily in ‘quiltmaking’ though I extend the definition to include various forms of textiles including costumes and sculptures. As a quilter, I continue a long family tradition of the work, though I am predominantly self-taught and did not grow up in a sewing/craft household. My practice heavily ways the reuse of inherited and waste textiles, such as sewing scraps or secondhand clothing. I have also made a series of quilts using single use plastic shopping bags. My quilts mix traditional scrap and modern improv style techniques as well as occasional classic patterning.

I have lived throughout the north-central West Virginia, including Morgantown and Elkins, as well as two years in Pittsburgh for my masters in public history. As a curator and historian, I have been able to elevate the voices of West Virginian artists, such as through a residency with Brew House Arts where I designed and coordinated an exhibit focusing on the Elkins arts community.
